Sports Chatter (10-17-12) ? West Life - Serving the Westshore ...

The third-annual Village Foundation Run through beautiful Bay Village, to benefit the Village Foundation, will be Saturday at 9 a.m., at Cahoon Park. Pre-registration is available on line at www.hermescleveland.com for $20, or in person, on the day of the race for $25. Race packets will be available for pickup on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. at Cahoon Park. The first 350 participants will get a cool, dry-tech, long-sleeved t-shirt. Funds collected by the not-for-Profit ?Village Foundation? are for Bay Village community projects. Cahoon Memorial Park is at the north end of Dover Center Road. Board members will be available at 7:30 to register walkers and runners and distribute packets. More than 350 walkers and runners registered last year. Only the first 350 entries receive the great shirt pictured here. Participants have told us that the shirt alone is worth more than the entry fee. Lutheran West Minihorn youth wrestling club is looking for K-6 graders. Practices are held at LWHS in the wrestling room starting Monday. Registration is open today from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $80. Lutheran West?s Shorthorn Jr. High wrestling club is looking for 7-8 graders. Practices are held at LWHS wrestling room from 5:30-7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, starting Nov. 9. The cost is $150. All costs cover uniforms, transportation and tournament fees. Wrestling singlets are provided. Participants must provide headgear and wrestling shoes. Junior high wrestlers must have a completed OHSAA physical form, which can be picked up at registration. Westlake Recreation is currently registering boys and girls in grades 1-6 for the?Youth Basketball League. This program is open to any child who lives in Westlake, goes to school in the city or is a current member of the Westlake Recreation Center. The programs are designed to instruct youngsters in the fundamentals of the game of basketball. Volunteer coaches are needed for all divisions. The registration deadline is Nov. 2. Hoopin? It Up, for boys and girls grades K-6, will be held Sundays, Oct. 14 to Nov. 4. Getting ready for your season? Just want to learn more about the game? Either way, these preseason workouts will help you develop the skills to take your game to the next level.?Each session will focus on the fundamentals of the game, building as the weeks go along to prepare players for game competition. Ball handling, passing, shooting footwork and defense will be the primary skills taught by coaches Jeff and Brianne Huber. Each player will be given drills to work on at the conclusion of the workouts so that their improvement will continue. Grades K-3 are from 12-12:45 p.m. and grades 4-6 are from 12:45-1:30 p.m. Fees: $75 for members and $85 for nonmembers.
